Statistics from the Department of Ecology and Environment of Hebei province indicate that last year, the province in North China registered a year-on-year drop of 15.3 percent in the average density of PM2.5 to 38.8 micrograms per cubic meter, a new record during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20). Meanwhile, the number of good air days increased by 15 days to 269.

In 2021, the department completed 322 carbon emission transformation projects for major industrial sectors such as steel and cement, and upgraded 1,182 furnaces.

About 400 environmental-protection cadres were selected to provide targeted assistance and supervise relevant law enforcement officials.

Through strenuous effort, three cities – Shijiazhuang, Xingtai and Handan – have made remarkable achievements, demonstrating Hebei’s firm resolution and practical actions to safeguard its air.

In 2022, the province will continue its monitoring and governance on PM2.5, O3, NOx and VOC.
